Jimmy Shergill is celebrating his 54th birthday on December 3rd that is today. Born into a Sikh family, Jimmy’s great-aunt was the famous artist Amrita Sher-Gil.
Despite his family’s legacy, Jimmy had to work hard to make a name for himself in the film industry starting with auditions like any other outsider.
He made his debut with “Maachis” which brought him recognition and led to a role in “Mohabbatein” after catching Aditya Chopra’s attention. Over the years, Jimmy has delivered memorable performances in his all movies.
However, his journey wasn’t without challenges. In an old interview, Jimmy revealed a major fallout with his family. He shared that he wore a turban until he was 18 but found it difficult to manage in the hostel.
When he decided to cut his hair, it hurt his family’s religious sentiments. As a result, his parents and relatives stopped speaking to him for over a year.
He recalled, “Not just my parents but the entire family cut ties with me, except for one uncle who had also cut his hair before me”. Despite this rough phase, Jimmy eventually reconciled with his family and continued pursuing his dreams.
